November Snow

Friday afternoon Steven and I drove up to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for a weekend family reunion. My Mother-In-Law planned the weekend get together for her side of the family, and we were so excited to see family that we haven't seen since our wedding in April.

I noticed before we left on our road trip that snow was predicted for Gatlinburg over the weekend, but I never thought we would actually experience snow so early in the season. Oh, how wrong I was! Saturday morning I opened the door to our cabin only to see big, beautiful white flakes falling towards the ground.
We weren't staying on the very tip-top of the mountain, so the snow wasn't too much of a factor for us. The sun came out shortly after I snapped the pictures above, and by the time we were dressed and ready to head out the snow had all but melted away.

We spent most of the day on Saturday walking around Gatlinburg, sight seeing, and even partaking in a little moonshine tasting. Pumpkin Spice moonshine anyone? It was just as delicious as it sounds!
After a little bit of sight seeing and shopping, we took the tram up to the top of the mountain. Let me just say, it was a good thing I had some moonshine in my system because I don't do heights or enclosed spaces, and I certainly don't voluntarily get into a small tram car that is pulled up and down the mountain by wires. I was a nervous wreck, to say the least. It was all worth it though when we reached the top of the mountain and I saw this gorgeous view. Breathtaking!

Gatlinburg made the record books on Saturday for the amount of snowfall they had. One area had a total of sixteen inches of snow. We talked to several people who had lost power at their cabins, and several mountain roads were closed. It's safe to say that no one was prepared for that kind of snow on November 1st.
After making it back down the mountain, we spent the rest of the weekend eating delicious food, watching football, and laughing hysterically while playing Cards Against Humanity. Have you ever played that game with family? It's a little awkward but also hilariously fun.

  2. These are such beautiful pictures!! Gatlinburg is our favorite camping spot in October, but it got SO cold this year. We were rolling our eyes here in Nashville to them saying Gatlinburg and Knoxville would get snow. I woke up Saturday morning to your pictures and showed Jackson! We were both just in awe.

  5. Even the pictures make me cold! It's so pretty though. I'm glad it doesn't really snow in Houston. Ha I don't know how they'd handle it. I'm trying to toughen up since I'm moving back to MN in June. I haven't had to deal with real winter long term in like 3 years ha.

  6. I saw your pictures on Facebook and Instagram this weekend and was so jealous of your snow! Fun fact, when I was younger it used to snow on Halloween when we lived in Pittsburgh. So I find snow on Nov 1 very homey.

Another fun fact? I got a little drunk off the Moonshine tasting last time we were in Gatlinburg because we also did the whiskey tasting right afterwards. Cheapest drunk ever over here! I love Gatlinburg!!!!

  13. Oh my gosh, I would be so nervous to play Cards Against Humanity with my family. My dad already finds away to make Apples to Apples innappropriate so he'd probably be awesome at it and I can just see my mom being so offended she leaves the room! Sounds like an amazing weekend though, I want some pumpkin moonshine!

  16. I visited Gatlinburg once about 5 years ago to meet my (at-the-time) boyfriend's parents...it was such a sweet town and I've always wanted to go back! Cards Against Humanity is always hilariously awkward when you play with family...I had some friends over for a barbecue this summer and when we played the game, my dad won 3 rounds in a row, haha!
