What I've Learned Since Marriage {This Crazy Thing Called Life}

Hi there Believe in the Sparks readers!  I'm Ericka and I blog at This Crazy Thing Called Life.  I started blogging to document everything leading up to our wedding and our first-time home buying process.  I've been married nine months now and I blog about a little bit of everything from DIY projects to recipes to concerts and everything in between.
This Crazy Thing Called Life
I want to thank Morgan for letting me take over her blog for a day while she is gone getting married and honeymooning.  I can't wait to hear all about her big day and I wish her and Steven the very best!  Today, I want to share a few things I have learned as a newlywed:

People are going to be constantly asking you about having kids.  They'll ask you if you're having kids, when you're having kids, how many kids you want...the list goes on.  They will be asking at your wedding reception, a month after the wedding, and they are still asking me, nine months after getting married.  Just be prepared for the baby questions to start IMMEDIATELY after the wedding.  My response is always, "yes, we want kids eventually, but we're not in a hurry."  Or I tell them that our dog is kid and that's enough for now :)

Changing your last name is a major pain.  Changing your last name on everything takes for ever.  The main things you do right away like social security card, drivers license, and passport (still haven't done that one).  Then there are all the other things you might not think about.  Bank accounts/credit cards, deed to your house, cell phone, utilities, and things at work like business cards, name tags, etc.  There are still some things I haven't changed my name on, like our Comcast account mainly because they told me I have to physically go to one of their offices and show them my marriage license, I can't just email it.  No thanks.  I don't need my name changed on it that bad.  Make sure you have several copies of your marriage license handy and be ready to start making all of those name changes.

Just enjoy being married to each other.  This is the most important advice I could give to any newlywed.  Just enjoy each other.  Have fun calling each other husband and wife.  Even though you're married, still go on dates and have fun.  You're married to your best friend--enjoy it!

  2. I hated changing my name! It took forever to change every last bill, credit card, bank account, subscription, etc, etc, etc. I've been married over four years now and my car title still has my maiden name on it! Yeah, it's exhausting. Don't get me started on the baby making comments! Ugh! I know they just want to be a part of "exciting" news, but please back off! :)

    1. It's been almost 10 months and I know there are still things I haven't changed my name on yet...but if I haven't done it yet, I'm probably not going to! haha. And yes, the baby making comments get old. Fast.
